Lady Gaga is indeed the new face of Versace, the Italian label confirmed on Twitter Saturday evening.
News that the singer would front Versace’s spring advertising campaign was reported byWWD earlier this month, but Versace decided to remain tight-lipped until the Twitter reveal on Saturday.
Gaga, who is known for sporting a wide range of looks in any given week, looks very Donatella-esque in the campaign, which was shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Like Donatella, she has straight, mermaid-long blonde hair parted down the middle, and heavy lids. She wears a form-fitting lavender dress adorned with the house’s signature lion head.
Given their very public mutual admiration for one other, it’s no surprise that Gaga is fronting Versace’s spring campaign. Gaga dedicated an entire song to Donatella in her latest album, “Artpop,” and even dressed like the designer at a party both appeared at in Oct. 2012. Versace, for its part, lent Gaga archival pieces for her 2011 “Edge of Glory” video — a first for any music video — and also created all of the outfits for Gaga’s 2012-2013 “Born This Way” Ball tour. (We’re not sure, however, if Versace designed as many for Gaga as Tom Ford did for Justin Timberlake).
