2015: Police alert political parties on plot to foment crisis in N-Delta

Yenagoa—The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5, Hashiru Argungu, yesterday raised alarm over alleged plot by some politicians in Bayelsa, Edo and Delta States to cause crisis in the region ahead of the 2015 general elections.

Argungu said that the politicians were capable of threatening security and safety of the people of the states.
The AIG spoke at a meeting with leaders of the political parties and the Conference of the Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP, in the state at the state Police Headquarters in Yenagoa.

Present at the meeting were representatives of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, led by the state Secretary, Keku Godspower; All Progressives Congress, APC, represented by Tonye Okio and Chief Joel Tubonimi, among others.

He warned the political class to be mindful of some elements engaging in activities capable of throwing the country into a state of anarchy.

He said: “You are all aware that the security of lives and property is a major factor to our collective wellbeing and this cannot be compromised. To do so will mean an invitation to anarchy. However, events in recent times have shown that there are elements within our society who for selfish interest, are engaging in activities capable of threatening security and public safety, which we all crave for. Our democracy cannot flourish in an atmosphere of insecurity.”
