Didier Drogba has returned to Chelsea on a one-year contract, the club have confirmed on their official website.
Ivorian striker Drogba was a free agent following his departure from Turkish outfit Galatasaray at the end of last season and will resume his career back at the club with whom he secured legendary status between 2004-12.
Return of the King
Rumours of a potential return to Stamford Bridge for the three-time Premier League winner had been circulating for some time, and Chelsea fans will no doubt be pleased to see Drogba return to boost Jose Mourinho's forward options for the 2014/15 campaign.
As a known favourite of the Portuguese, Drogba notched 157 goals for the Blues during his eight years in West London, fully justifying the faith shown in him prior to his big-money move from Ligue 1 outfit Marseille.
Perhaps his finest moment for the club came in his final appearance, with Drogba scoring both the dramatic equaliser and subsequent winning penalty that saw Chelsea beat Bayern Munich on their own turf to secure the Champions League trophy back in 2012.
"‘It was an easy decision - I couldn't turn down the opportunity to work with Jose again. Everyone knows the special relationship I have with this club and it has always felt like home to me," Drogba said of his return on the Chelsea website.
"My desire to win is still the same and I look forward to the opportunity to help this team. I am excited for this next chapter of my career."
