The Federal Government, Friday, directed banks, insurance and financial institutions to suspend on-going retrenchment in the sector. This is contained in a statement signed by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, and made available to newsmen in Abuja. Nigerian youths “Following spate of petitions and complaints from stakeholders in the banking, insurance and financial institutions, I hereby direct the suspension of the on-going retrenchment pending the outcome of the conciliatory meetings in the industry. “This is as a result of the apprehension by my office of the various disputes in the sector in accordance and in compliance with the provisions of the labour laws of Nigeria,” it said. The statement said that the decision was further predicated on the fact that the continued retrenchment and redundancy by the sector were jeopardizing the outcome of the re conciliatory and mediatory processes undertaken by the ministry. “In this wise, all the retrenchments and redundancies done in the last four months and all proposed ones should be put on hold. “Pending the outcome of the proposed stakeholders’ summit for the banking, insurance and financial institutions’ employers and employees, slated for the first week of July 2,’’ the statement read in part. However, Mr. Ngige advised all parties in the interest of industrial peace and harmony to maintain the status-quo ante-belum. Several banks have fired thousands of workers, amid an economic crisis. This week, Ecobank has reportedly sacked about thousand staff. (NAN)

President Buhari is not feeling well - Premium Times reports

http://naijamusicalvideoblog.blogspot.co.uk/
Premium Times is exclusively reporting that President Buhari is ill and is being treated at the presidential villa. Read part of the report below...
"The president has an infection in his left ear, otherwise called Meniere Disease, a challenge which has drastically reduced his outings in the last one week. As a result of the infection, the president now suffers hearing impairment and routinely complains of severe pains and unusual sounds from that ear, those familiar with his condition told Premium Times.
Mr. Buhari, who clocked 73 last December, was said to have confirmed it to some dignitaries who visited him in the past days, explaining to some of them that that was why he was unable to visit Lagos and Rivers as scheduled. He was also said to have told some of his guests that he was struggling to give his failing health a major attention. He is currently being treated by his personal physician and other experts from the State House Clinic, our sources said.
An official said the president might seek treatment abroad if his condition does not improve in the next few days. Despite hearing difficulty, the president, our sources said, managed to attend Jumaat service and host some important visitors, including former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan as well as some clergymen on Friday. Presidential spokespersons could not be reached to comment for this story on Friday night. While calls to the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, failed to go through, Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant on media and publicity did not answer or return calls.

Court affirms innocence of Odudu Ukpanah, man accused of killing his father

Read the family's press statement below...
Odudu Ukpanah, 33, a masters degree holder from Coventry University, United Kingdom, and the only son of the late chieftain of the PDP, in Akwa Ibom State, Engr. Albert Jimmy Ukpanah, who was falsely accused of killing his father by the government of Godswill Akpabio was finally discharged and acquitted on Thursday June 2, 2016 by the High Court of Akwa Ibom State, Abak Division, presided over by Justice Ezekiel Enang.

The late outspoken politician, Engr. Ukpanah, was assassinated on Wednesday March 12, 2014 at his residence. The Police Investigation Report dated 25th Match, 2014 clearly stated that the murder was "politically motivated".

But the then government of Akpabio framed-up the man's only son and had him arrested, detained and prosecuted for the murder. Odudu had spent almost one year in prison custody for a crime he knew nothing about before he was granted bail.

Today, we have been vindicated and the DEVIL has been put to shame. The malicious trial has finally ended on a victorious note as the court has affirmed our position that Odudu did not kill his father.
Godswill Akpabio shame on you.

Onbehalf of the #ReleaseOduduUkpanah Campaign, I commend the judge for standing on the side of truth and not submitting to the machinations of the evil ones. Justice has been served and the truth has been upheld.
I commend all those who fought this battle with us. May God reward you all immensely.
To Odudu, I say congratulations for becoming a hero. You are a great man and your star will continue to shine beyond the reach your enemies.

To Uduak Ukpanah, Eki Jimmy-umoren and Ofonime Pushie Ukpanah, I say may God bless you for standing by your one and only brother to the end. The love and support you demonstrated towards Odudu is a lesson for history and the society.

Why Murray-Bruce was barred from greeting Buhari- Sen. Adeyeye

bruce11
Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Prof. Sola Adeyeye has reacted to the accusation of Senator representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District, Ben Murray-Bruce, that operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, prevented him from “greeting” President Muhammadu Buhari at a state dinner organised at the instance of President Buhari to mark the 2016 Democracy Day. Professor Adeyeye argued that Murray-Bruce breached protocol and he was turned back along with some All Progressives Congress, APC lawmakers. Recall that yesterday, Murray-Bruce tweeted: “I was at the Presidential Villa today, went to the president’s table. DSS wouldn’t allow me greet him, but let another senator greet him. I have nothing against the President. However, nobody is too important to be criticized and my mouth will never be silenced!” Explaining what transpired at the dinner, the APC lawmaker said: “I was at the dinner. I sat in the front row along with other Principal Officers of the National Assembly. I had a vantage view of what transpired. I am disappointed by this comment from a respected colleague. I have on two occasions provided robust defense of Sen Ben Bruce. Not this time! “It was Dino Melaye who first went to greet those seated at the President’s table, including President Buhari. He was well greeted. No one in the senate has criticized President Buhari more than Sen Melaye. But as others rose to do what Dino had done, the scene got clumsy and indecorous because people were approaching the President’s table from different directions. “I sat between Sen Olujimi and Sen Bwacha. The three of us felt embarrassed by what was clearly a breach of dinner protocol. At that level, if dinner was served or being served, good etiquette demanded that the President’s table should not be approached. One should wait until people had finished eating.” “No senator in the USA would breach such elementary protocol. We (on my table) predicted in whispers that colleagues would soon be barred from approaching the President’s table and it happened. The first person to be turned back was Sen Barnabas Gemade who was visibly embarrassed. He belongs to the APC; he is not a known critic of the President. “When I noticed that most people had finished their food, I approached the table and offered my pleasantries. Others followed suit. No one was turned back,” explained Adeyeye

Johnny Depp's ex Vanessa Paradis dismisses Amber Heard's domestic violence allegations as "outrageous"

Johny Depp's long-term ex partner and the mother of his two children, Vanessa Paradis has dismissed Amber Heard's domestic violence claims as "outrageous" and has said the actor is a sensitive and loving person.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge last Friday issued a temporary domestic violence restraining order against Depp after his wife Heard alleged he had been violent towards her on multiple occasions during their 15-month marriage.

Heard appeared in court, with a visible bruise on her face, alleging that Depp threw a Phone at her face last Saturday and a month before "grabbed [her] by the hair and violently shove [her] to the floor". In court documents, Heard wrote, "I live in fear that Johnny will return to the residence unannounced to terrorise me, physically and emotionally."

The 43-year-old French actress dismissed said Depp was not once physically abusive to her during the 14 years they lived together. They were in a relationship between 1998 and 2012 and have two children together, Lily-Rose and Jack. In a letter obtained exclusively by TMZ, Paradis wrote:

"In all the years I have known Johnny, he has never been physically abusive with me and this looks nothing like the man I lived with for 14 wonderful years. He is a sensitive, loving and loved person, and I believe with all my heart, that these recent allegations being made are outrageous,"

According to TMZ, Depp’s first wife Lori Anne Allison told friends that Depp, to whom she was married between 1983 and 1985, was a "soft person" who was never aggressive during their relationship.
